Dr. Steven J. Phillips, United States Army Reserve, Retired U.S. Department of Health & Human services, is an internationally-recognized cardiac surgeon, who upon retirement was appointed to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, as a senior manager. Dr. Phillips served twice in Vietnam from 1968-70 and retired from reserve duty in 1993 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He serves or served on numerous medical society, journal, government, and corporate committees and boards.
He is a life member of the 101st Airborne Association and an Associate Life member of the UDT/SEAL Association. He is a member of numerous medical societies and editorial boards, has served as President of the American Society of Artificial Internal Organs, the Society of Cardiac Surgeons of Spain, and the Polk County Medical Society, Iowa. Dr. Phillips has approximately 350 publications, including 140 in peer-reviewed medical journals and has been granted 6 patents.
